The strategies we will follow for the 2022-23 school year will include:
- COVID-19 vaccination: We continue to encourage all those who are eligible to receive vaccinations and boosters, as appropriate.
- Staying home when ill: If a staff or student experiences COVID-19 symptoms, they should remain home for five days. A test is not required to return to work or school. If symptoms are improving and a test is negative, the staff or student may return prior to five days.
- Close contacts: The district will not monitor close contacts. If a staff or student is a close contact with someone who has symptoms or receives a positive COVID-19 test, they do not need to quarantine, unless they begin to experience symptoms themselves. They may choose to wear a mask during this time, but masking is optional.
- Use of face coverings (masks): The use of masks is always optional, but can be a useful mitigation tool, not just related to COVID-19, but also to reduce the spread of other airborne illnesses such as colds and the flu. As a district, we will ensure that any individual who chooses to wear a mask will be treated respectfully. Masking is highly recommended when returning on day six after the onset of COVID-19 symptoms. Even in this case, however, the wearing of a mask is optional and will not be monitored.
- Testing: The use of a rapid or a PCR testing is not required as part of the district's plan. If an individual is experiencing symptoms of COVID-19, they may choose to get tested, which can reduce isolation if the results are negative, or can help reduce the spread of COVID-19 if positive, by helping the individual know to take greater care around others. Tests are provided free-of-charge at https://www.covid.gov/tests.
- Hand washing and sanitizing: One of the best strategies to reduce the spread of many illnesses (including colds and flu) is regular hand washing or the use of hand sanitizer.
- Ventilation: The district will continue to maintain appropriate indoor ventilation systems to keep the flow of air adequate for reducing airborne contamination.
- Social distancing: The separation of individuals is largely impractical in classrooms and large group settings. If an individual is able, they may choose to create some separation from others, especially during times of high levels of illness.
