Why did the district seek community feedback?
There is a gap in operational funds used to run the district’s day-to-day operations, and this gap is projected to grow each year. Operational referendums, which must be voted on by the electorate, are one way that districts are allowed by the State legislature to address the yearly budget deficits they face.
Also, the District completed a comprehensive facilities study. There are many maintenance and repair items that need to be addressed. The Board and leadership team considered the highest priorities. One way the State legislature allows school districts to address costly repairs is through a capital referendum.
The board sought public feedback in November 2022 in order to inform the public about the potential funding challenges and to see input on possible solutions.
