Each year, the state-wide Academic Decathlon competition revolves around a specific theme. This year's theme was "Our Changing Climate." The competition took place at the Tundra Lodge in Green Bay and featured ten distinct events in which all team members participated. Students were tested in seven subject areas: Economics, Science, Math, Literature, Social Studies, Art, and Music. Additionally, they composed an essay, delivered a speech, and participated in an interview. This year, the team also engaged with a novel related to the theme titled "Solar Storms" by Linda Hogan.
The team consists of nine members: three Honors players (GPA of 3.80-4.00), three Scholastic players (GPA of 3.20-3.799), and three Varsity players (GPA of 0.00-3.199).

🚶 At BMS, students in the Coding class had an exciting project where they turned Microbits into working pedometers. This hands-on experience helped them learn coding while positively impacting our school!
The project started with an introduction to Microbit technology. Students learned to program the devices to count their steps. Each student was tasked with writing code that would enable their Microbits to count the number of steps they took throughout the day. They worked together in coding sessions, helping each other troubleshoot and improve their programs with their teacher's guidance.
🚮 After programming their Microbits, the students took initiative by organizing a school cleanup. With their pedometers, they spread out across the schoolyard, picking up litter while keeping track of their steps. This activity encouraged them to be active and responsible for their environment.
As they walked, students were thrilled to see their step counts go up, giving them a sense of accomplishment. The project ended with a discussion about the importance of coding skills and caring for the environment. Students shared their experiences and reflected on the positive changes they made in their school community.
🙌 The Berlin Middle School Coding class showcased how technology and civic responsibility can work together. They inspired others to creatively explore how coding can be applied to real-life situations. Great job, students!
