Berlin High School is proud to celebrate a remarkable achievement by one of our own! Mrs. Angela Femali, longtime BHS educator, has officially earned her Doctor of Education (EdD) from Edgewood University—a milestone that reflects her pas

sion for learning, teaching, and lifelong growth.

Mrs. Femali’s love for education started early. “Ever since I was little, I wanted to go to school,” she shared. As a child playing jump rope, she imagined jumping all the way to “grade 16,” thinking that was as far as school could go. While the journey ended up being longer than she once imagined, her enthusiasm for learning never faded. “I love learning new things. I love the atmosphere of being on a campus and being involved in class discussions—wrestling with new ideas.”

After completing her second master’s degree, Mrs. Femali decided she wasn’t finished yet. With encouragement from her husband, she applied to doctoral programs and began working toward a PhD at Cardinal Stritch University. When the university closed two years into the program, she persevered—transferring to Edgewood University to complete her dissertation and earn her EdD instead.

That perseverance mirrors her dedication to education at Berlin High School, where she is currently in her 23rd year of teaching. Prior to BHS, she spent four years teaching at Oconomowoc High School. While many know her as an English teacher, her experience goes well beyond one subject area. Over the years, she has taught Theater Arts, served as an instructional coach, and earned an impressive list of credentials—including licenses in Reading, Reading Specialist, and Director of Instruction.

Her advanced studies focused on language and literacy, knowledge she actively brings back to her classroom. “A lot of what I’ve learned about reading skills and comprehension shows up in my assignment designs and teaching methods,” she explained. Just as importantly, she hopes her journey encourages students to see learning as something that never truly ends. “By being an example of lifelong learning, I hope I inspire students to want to keep learning too.”

Berlin High School is incredibly fortunate to have such a dedicated educator and role model on staff. Please join us in congratulating Dr. Angela Femali on this outstanding accomplishment—we can’t wait to see how her continued passion for learning inspires our students and school community!
