Middle School Music

Cantata Choir: This class is all about creating, understanding, and performing choral music for 6th-grade students! This is an introduction to the exciting world of choir.  In this class, we talk about the fundamentals of singing, and we work on the basics of singing in 2 and 3 parts. Concert performances are expected. There is one each trimester with solo/ensemble opportunities. The Power Standards for this course are:

Chorale Choir: This class is all about creating, understanding, and performing choral music for 7th-grade students! This course builds on the skills learned in the Cantata choir and helps build ensemble skills that can be used in any singing group.  Concert performances are expected. There is one each trimester with solo/ensemble opportunities. The  Power Standards for this course are:

Chamber Choir: This class is all about creating, understanding, and performing choral music for 8th-grade students! This course builds on the skills learning in the Chorale Choir and works on 3 and 4-part harmonies. Chamber Choir performs at the highest level. Concert performances are expected. There is one each trimester with solo/ensemble opportunities. The Power Standards for this course are:

General Music 6: In this class, you will learn to read notes, rhythms, and music vocabulary. Also taught in this class is music appreciation.The Power Standards for this course are:

Music History 7/8 This class covers topics in music history. 2020-2021 topic is Music History in the 20th Century. Students will learn how to explore music and respond to music from different genres, cultures, and geographic locations. Other topics include protest music from the 60s, the rise of jazz in the 20s, the era of disco in the 70s, etc…  The Power Standards for this course are:

Beginning Band (6th grade):

Berlin Middle School bands share a tradition of excellence. In Beginning Band, students are introduced to the joys and challenges of playing a band instrument. Students work to learn the skills and musical knowledge needed to be successful musicians. This band will perform 3 concerts during the year.

Allegro Band (7th grade):

Berlin Middle School bands share a tradition of excellence. In Allegro Band, students will have fun working independently and as a group to further develop their skills and musical knowledge playing a band instrument. Performances include parades, concerts, and solo/ensemble opportunities.

Encore Band(8th grade):

Berlin Middle School bands share a tradition of excellence. Encore Band builds upon skills and deepens knowledge learned in Allegro Band and helps prepare students for success in high school band. Performances include parades, concerts, and solo/ensemble opportunities.

Bucket Band:

Bucket Band is a general music class where students learn about the elements of music through drumming.
