As the BASD Leadership Team continues to prepare for the reopening of school this fall, we have made plans for getting an accurate understanding of the academic strengths and needs of your child.
Each year, your child takes a reading and math assessment called iReady within the first month of school. The information we gather from this assessment informs us of individual student needs. Given the current educational landscape and how school was left in the spring, it is imperative that we assess students early to maximize the days of instruction when students return to school. With this said, we are asking for your cooperation in an effort to schedule the iReady assessment prior to school starting.
For students attending BMS, testing will take place on the following dates. Please note that this has changed since included in the July 13, 2020 BMS Newsletter. The changes you will see below offer more opportunities for students to complete their testing before school begins.
Monday, August 17, 2020
Tuesday, August 18, 2020
Wednesday, August 19, 2020
Thursday, August 20, 2020
For any of these dates, parents should select a time slot that works best for them. The time slots will either be 9:00-12:00 or 1:00-4:00 and can be signed up for on Sign-Up Genius.
IMPORTANT NOTE - If your student is a 6th grader, a brief one-hour orientation will be held just prior to each testing session - 8:00 AM or 12:00 PM on any of the dates listed above. You can sign your student up for this within Sign-Up Genius. Unfortunately, parents will not be able to attend the orientation as we are attempting to limit who enters our building during the pandemic; however, it will provide the incoming 6th graders will some basic information about our school, a short tour, and a Q&A session. More details about the orientation will be sent to 6th-grade parents separately within the coming weeks.
Please rest assured that we will ensure a safe environment for all students during the testing. Our safety measures will include social distancing, facemask wearing for staff and students alike, disinfecting of all Chromebooks and table spaces. Note that students will need to come with a facemask or one will be provided. Temperature checks will also be conducted as each student enters the school building as a precautionary measure.
Students attending will be eligible to win a cash prize just for attending. Additionally, student schedules will be handed out at this event, which hopefully will provide students with some additional incentive for attending.
All students should come with earbuds or headphones, a facemask, a book to read, a sketchbook to draw in, or something constructive to do when they are completed with the testing. A brief break will be provided between the reading and math portions of the test. Students with accommodations will be tested in a private setting.
**Please drop off and pick-up students at the BMS Gymnasium Entrance.
Those with questions are always welcome to contact Principal Steve Gromala or Dean of Students Ryan Zak at (920) 361-2441.
