As principal of Berlin High School, it is my pleasure to welcome everyone back for another great year at Berlin High School. I want to extend a warm welcome to the incoming 9th graders, class of 2023. I am excited to have students back in our classrooms and hallways, filling them with energy, excitement, and enthusiasm for learning.
It’s our commitment at BHS to help every student to feel welcome, connected, safe and part of our Berlin family. We also challenge each student to grow in their academic ability. We believe that all students should graduate from Berlin High School prepared for the demands of post-secondary education or the rigors of meaningful careers, and strive to be good citizens that are respectful, gracious, appreciative, and kind.
As I think about the upcoming year, we will continue to enhance our culture of continuous improvement. Grading for Learning, now known at the high school as “The Berlin Way” is steadily progressing. The purpose of the The Berlin Way is to increase the accuracy and understanding of students’ learning and the ability to communicate to all parties We have established re-assessment policies. Our next step is to design a report card that will communicate what standard(s) is being assessed and the student’s level of proficiency, as well as the traditional letter/ percentage grade for the assignment.
Our number one goal is to improve student learning. So regardless of where our students begin the year, we want to help them advance their critical thinking, knowledge, skills, and ability to problem solve. If at any time you have a question about what is occurring in your student’s class, please contact your student’s teacher.
Our custodians and maintenance staff have done an excellent job in cleaning and preparing the building and grounds for the return of students. Our secretaries have worked diligently in the office all summer preparing mailings, organizing handbooks, and all the important steps in getting our school ready for the first day. I am truly blessed to have such great support personnel . Our doors are always open. Stop in and say hello to a teacher, a cook, a custodian, or a member of our office staff - they are all here to make our school a positive learning environment for your child.
