Weather Related School Closing Information
As the winter approaches it is once again necessary to remind parents, students, and staff of the procedures used for weather related school closings. Closing schools for weather related reasons is always taken very seriously and with the weather in Wisconsin staying on top of rapidly changing weather conditions is always a challenge. The decision to close schools is usually made in the early morning hours; however, at times it is possible to make the call the evening before. The superintendent makes the decision based on consultation with Mascoutin Transportation, highway condition reports, other area superintendents, and local spotters.
Please understand that in Wisconsin snow, ice, and extreme temperatures are a normal part of our weather pattern and our state does not close down every time it snows or the temperature goes below zero. All drivers including bus drivers need to practice safe winter driving practices because school will operate from time to time when it snows. Parents of driving age children who have concerns about driving safety for their child in snowy conditions should consider having them ride the bus on those days. If ever as a parent you feel it is not safe due to your local road conditions you have the right to keep your child home without consequence. This also applies to the bus company who may chose to not travel down a road if the conditions are not safe for driving.
When school is closed or dismissed early the district will make a call to all of our family’s by using the AlertNow automated call telephone system. The closing information will also be given to the following television and radio stations for broadcast:
NBC26, WLUK Fox 11, WBAY 2, WISS 1100 AM, WRPN 1600 AM, and WOSH 1490 AM.
The closing information will also appear on our district website. When conditions warrant, evening and after school activities may also be canceled due to weather conditions. In those situations please stay tuned to the stations above for updates.
***If the weather causes a late start there will be no 4K morning or afternoon and no morning Early Childhood but there will be afternoon Early Childhood. |
