WEB Success
What would happen if students were given the permission to care about each other and the structure in which to do it?
Schools and kids change for the better.
What is WEB?
WEB (Where Everyone Belongs) is a program that welcomes the sixth grade class on the first day of school as well as continues to support them throughout their first year of middle school. WEB Leaders are 8th graders identified through applications as a people in our school who are positive role models, responsible, possess leadership qualities, are kind, and most importantly, have a desire to give back to his/her school community.
WEB Leaders are given the responsibilty of managing and instructing a small a small group of around 10 6th graders on Orientation Day, which is the first day of school. A series of activities are done throughout Orientation which allows the WEB Leaders to get to know their 6th grade groups better, as well as give the Leaders the opportunity to pass on valuable information about how to be successful in our school. WEB Leaders are also called on throughout the school year to support the 6th graders by teaching them valuable lessons like communicating in the classroom and socially, how to ask effective questions, and how to be positive in their school environment. Leaders also get together with their groups to "check-in" at various times throughout the year, to make sure their groups are doing well, and Leaders are also available to show new students around our school, and be mentors to any of our 6th graders, should the need arise.
Our WEB program has been very active in its first year, and we hope to build upon this and help our school become a more positive place for the students here. If you have any questions about our WEB program, please fell free to contact one of our co-coordinators, Sherry Millette or Jeremy Fritz. Contact information is below.
